Alex Pham, M.D., from SEVA Medcare in Lewisville presented strategies for pain treatment to a very engaged audience. Dr. Pham trained in Tulane as an undergrad, attended LSU Medical School, and completed a comprehensive pain program at UCLA. He presented pain intervention options as part of the Living Well Speaker Seminars on Feb. 12.
He discussed multi-disciplinary, patient-centered interventions to pain treatment that ranged from massage, to chiropractic, to treatments that block transmission of pain. He explained that where there is pain, a nerve is transmitting that pain. So, treating the nerve is the route to removing the pain. He discussed cauterizing that nerve as the most common treatment. He also spoke about peripheral nerve stimulation, genicular artery embolization, and many other pain relief treatments
Reducing pain allows an individual to participate in activities more, and participating in activities more often can lead to a healthier life.
