Brad Acklan with Deborah Deverich, vice president of Programs for the Women’s Club
Dianne Ace
Members of the Robson Ranch Women’s Club were entertained with love songs sung by Brad Acklan at their February luncheon meeting. With a repertoire of over 100 songs, he featured many of our favorite songs.
Brad stated that he usually begins a concert with songs that he is learning. He said he does this because, “That way, the songs get better and better.” He sang requests from the audience, including “Unforgettable,” “I Left My Heart in San Francisco,” and the Italian love song “Volare.” Another song that he included was “Unchained Melody,” which his father told him was the most beautiful song ever written. He closed with Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”
The Women’s Club will host a social on Tuesday, March 31, at 5 p.m. in the clubhouse for all the ladies of Robson Ranch, whether you are a member or not. There will be refreshments, an open bar, and a brief presentation on “Estate Sales—Need to Know.” No reservations are needed.
During the meeting, the Women’s Club presented a check for $3,115 to Journey to Dream. The donation represented the proceeds from the Wine Pull held at the recent Holiday Home Tour. Journey to Dream is a nonprofit organization that provides shelter for Denton County teens experiencing homelessness, ongoing support services, and in-school prevention programs to help middle and high school students manage the stresses of growing up in today’s complex world.
The April meeting of the Women’s Club will be Monday, April 6. Doors open at 11 a.m., and lunch is served at 11:20 a.m. The program will be presented by Andrew Torget, PhD. Dr. Torget is a historian of 19th century North America and one of the foremost experts on Texas history. He will entertain the members with tales of the feats of bravery by Texas Women.
Luncheon checks are due by Monday, March 30, at 8 a.m. and can be placed in the Sports Center Women’s Lounge in the white mailbox or can be paid by credit card on the website at www.rrwomensclub.org.
The menu will be orange-glazed sesame chicken, fried rice, and Asian salad, with banana pudding for dessert. The charity for April is Children’s Advocacy Center for North Texas.
The Robson Ranch Women’s Club is open to all women residing at Robson Ranch. It is a 501(c)(3) corporation. More information can be found at our website www.rrwomensclub.org.
