The Baby Boomers were off to the races at this year’s Kentucky Derby Party, and what a fun-filled evening it was! Guests arrived dressed in their Derby best, sporting colorful hats, festive attire, and plenty of racing spirit.
Adding to the authentic Derby experience, guests enjoyed traditional Kentucky fare featuring Hot Browns, the famous open-faced turkey and bacon sandwich that originated in Louisville, along with refreshing Mint Juleps, the signature beverage of the Kentucky Derby.
The evening featured two unique and highly entertaining “horse races” that had everyone laughing and cheering. In the first race, guests formed teams around tables and selected a jockey to ride a pool noodle horse around a 60-step course throughout the clubhouse. Teams advanced their horse based on the roll of a giant inflatable die, creating a fast-paced and hilarious race to the finish line.
The second race mixed things up even more by dividing guests into six teams based on birth months (January/February, March/April, and so on). Each team selected a “horse” to sit in a chair and a “jockey” to stand behind them. At the signal to start, jockeys raced to unroll an entire roll of paper towels using only their feet. The competition was fierce, and the laughter was nonstop as teams cheered on their jockeys. Winners of both horse races earned extra raffle tickets for the evening’s prize drawings.
The Derby-themed raffle featured an impressive collection of prizes, including two bottles of Kentucky bourbon, three bottles of wine, a horse-themed puzzle, a horse head wine stopper, a six-pack of IPA beer featuring a horse on the label, and one of twenty horse head bottle openers.
Adding to the excitement, attendees voted for the Best Dressed Gentleman and Best Dressed Lady. The top five vote-getters in each category received additional raffle tickets, rewarding those who truly embraced the Kentucky Derby tradition.
Between the friendly competition, delicious food and beverages, great prizes, festive fashions, and opportunities to mix and mingle with fellow Boomers, the Kentucky Derby Party proved to be another memorable evening. Judging by the smiles, laughter, and enthusiastic participation, everyone agreed—it was a winning night at the races!
