The Aug. 3 meeting of the Robson Ranch Women’s Club featured a talk by Dr. Angela Steffen Meyer, PhD, PE. Angela spent her career looking at things suspiciously. When her mother read a newspaper article stating that engineers would have work for the next 30 years, she announced to her twin daughters that they would become engineers. Although Angela originally wanted to be an airline pilot, she ended up working in failure analysis, which is the investigation and diagnosis of the cause of a malfunction.
She began her career investigating airplane crashes and then moved to vehicle crashes. She also worked on other cases, such as the NFL “Deflate Gate” football incident, the sinking of the Titanic, and the cause of the James Dean crash. The American Bar Association hired her company to assist with a mock trial of Lee Harvey Oswald for the killing of John F. Kennedy. After her talk, the group understood how the study of failures can make things safer.
Donna DeBoever told the members that the Women’s Club will be electing the members of the board later this year. Donna, the Chairman of the Nominating Committee, introduced its members: Gayle Lee, Sallie Wasson, Connie Rebaldo, and Maggie Jameson.
The Women’s Club has a lot of activities planned for October. On Oct. 3, they will hold their annual Holiday Market. In addition to over 60 vendors, the market will also have a raffle featuring an outstanding collection of gifts, services, gift cards, and unique experiences donated by generous area businesses.
On Oct. 17, the Women’s Club is holding its first Bocce tournament fundraiser benefiting the Children’s Advocacy Center. The tournament is open to Robson residents of all skill levels. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded in addition to door prizes.
And for a little fun, on Oct. 15 the Club is hosting a Fashion Show. It will feature the fall collection of the Cabi Fashion Experience. There will be refreshments and a cash bar. The show will be held at the Clubhouse from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and is open to all women residing at Robson Ranch. No reservations are needed.
The Community Outreach Committee donated 51 back to school backpacks filled with school supplies to Denton County Friends of the Family. Friends of the Family was also the recipient of the Share Our Blessings collection, receiving $780 from members of the Club.
The next Club luncheon will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5 and will be a fashion show presented by Chico’s. Reservations must be made by Monday, Sept. 28, at 8 a.m. Checks can be placed in the white mailbox in the Sports Center Women’s Lounge or paid by credit card on the website at www.rrwomensclub.org. The menu will be teriyaki chicken with fried rice, Asian salad, and apple crumb cake.
