The annual WGA Christmas luncheon was held at the Wildhorse Clubhouse Grill on December 1. We enjoyed an elegant lunch prepared by Chef Aubrey and served efficiently by the Grill staff. Judy Markley and Sarah Ettredge, our social chairs, did a great job planning the event. In the spirit of the season 102 new toys were donated to Toys for Tots. In memory of our dear friend Charlene Hodgson, we also contributed 110 pounds of travel size toiletries to be distributed to patrons of Our Daily Bread as well as monetary donations totaling $745.
In addition to lunch, recognition was given to golfers who had recorded birdies and chip-ins on Tuesday playdays during the year. Ruth Bowen and Joyce Marshall tied for the most chip-ins with three each. Ok Cha Cummings had the most birdies with a total of 11. The player who showed the most improvement through the year was Malinda Hall. The Ringer Tournament is a year-long competition that tracks our lowest net scores on each hole played on Tuesday playdays. The players winning the ringer recognition were Mary Beninato and LaDonna Womochel, flight three; Pam Kanawyer, Sarah Ray and Victoria Pettigrew, flight two; and Joyce Marshall and Ok Cha Cummings, flight one. Congratulations to all for great golf games.
The final event of the day was the inauguration of our officers for 2016. Brenda Alford chose a rainbow peace theme for the occasion. Each officer was given a sign representing peace, love and WGA to show the spirit of our group for next year. Our executive board for 2016 includes President Diane Bent, Vice-President Donna Phillips, Secretary Linda Knightly and Treasurer Linda Watrak. We are all looking forward to a golfing season filled with lots of pars, birdies and even eagles!
