Spoken word is a “catchall” term that includes any kind of poetry recited aloud, including poetry readings, poetry slams, and jazz poetry, and can include comedy routines and prose monologues.

Mark your calendars for the first-ever Spoken Word event to be held at Robson Ranch, featuring professional Spoken Word artists and an open mic platform. That’s right, Robson Ranch residents are invited to participate in the open mic. So, if you consider yourself a poet, orator, or theatre performer, consider participating in this evening of spoken word.

Featured Professional Poets:

Kathy “KT” Witten is a writer, poet, playwright/director, actor, storyteller, and speaker. She and her family moved to Texas from Colorado in 2012. KT has been a radio host on KLDC, with a successful show called Woman to Woman, as well as a guest host on Broken and Beautiful KLTT. She has also done voice overs for Fiske Planetarium/NASA, Google, and other local businesses.

Her poetry is thought-provoking and compelling. She has been a featured poet at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters (TBAAL), House of Blues, Black and Bitter, and Create Arlington. Her voice, presence, and ability to paint vivid images with her words have helped her to win numerous poetry competitions and cause others to see a different perspective.

Mz Viki, a native Texan who resides in Dallas. She has appeared as a co-host for TBAAL’s Poets N’ Jazz, seasons 42 and 43. Featured poet at Dallas City Hall, Bring Back Our Girls. Former regular poet at The Balcony Club with Liz Mikel’s Artist Showcase and Verb Kulture’s Beat Street at the Free Man in Deep Ellum. She has shared the TBAAL stage with songwriter CoCo Brown and with actress Irma P. Hall in In the Words of a Sistah on stage.
