Saturday, Nov. 9, Fellowship At The Ranch (FATR) hosted a Chili Cook-off at the WildHorse Grill on the patio. The 60+ degree weather was perfect for sampling chili. Over a hundred RR residents and friends attended the event. The cook-off began with welcome and prayer by FATR Pastor Ed Jones.
As the participants entered the patio, they were greeted with the wonderful smells of chili wafting through the air, and Christian music playing in the background. Tables were set-up with delicious samples of chili waiting to be tasted. The eleven chili cooks passed out samples of their specialty chili.
The chili’s ranged from sweet to savory, mild to spicy, and no beans (Texas style) to chili with beans.
The chili cooks were Teresa Blackburn, Clark Culpepper, Roz Culpepper, Carolyn and Wayne Detjen, Dennis Dotson, Mick and Ann Fox, Darby Jones, Lucy Lindsey, Mary Ann Paige, and Carole Weidner, Julie Redmond, and Maureen Tanner.
As participants visited each table, the cooks explained what made their chili special. After tasting all the chilis, the participants made the difficult decision as to which chili they liked best, and then they cast their vote accordingly.
At the end of the event the votes were counted. Pastor Ed Jones announced the winner – Carolyn and Wayne Detjen (Table 4) who were presented with a trophy.
The festivities continued with the Wildhorse Grill’s Chili Fest with a chili cheese dog lunch and live entertainment and vendors on the back patio, lawn, and gazebo.
A special thank you to Shelbi Berg, HOA Activity Director, and Jeremy Trietsche Wildhorse Grill Food and Beverage Director and his staff for all their assistance with the Chili Cook-off. Also; a special thank you to FATR Pastor Ed Jones, Kim Wilkin FATR Administrative Assistant, and the FATR Fellowship committee.
