Baby Boomers Mardi Gras

Susan Parker

New Orleans may have the best Mardi Gras celebration in the United States, but the Baby Boomers at Robson Ranch are a close second. The Boomer celebration was held in the clubhouse ballroom and filled with Boomers dressed in their best Mardi Gras attire. Each table had a beautiful centerpiece, Mardi Gras beads, and a mask.

What is a Mardi Gras celebration without sausage and chicken gumbo? The buffet featured the gumbo and was paired with rice and a side of a corn muffin. The bar also had a special drink, the New Orleans Hurricane.

Carol Jankowski started off the celebration with a Mardi Gras Bingo quiz. A second event for the Boomers was guessing how many strands of beads were in a basket. And, finally, participation in a secret event involved each of the participating tables in a “minute to win it red Solo cup stacking contest.” At the last minute, Carol and Susan threw in a best-dressed man and woman, selected by the banquet staff, to win a cash prize.

The winners of the events were as follows:

Mardi Gras Bingo: Sharon Smith, Debbie Devenrich, and Mark Freeman

Guess the Strands: Tim Baris

Red Solo Cup: John Schmidt, Ron Frusher, and Noah Frusher

Best Dressed: Dennis and Pam Dotson

A special thank you goes to our assistants Cinde Rodriguez and Cathy and Ken Kramer. They didn’t even attend the event but helped with the set-up and take-down.
