There are Material Girls, and then there are Material Girls who contribute a great deal of their time, effort, and money to our various charitable organizations. Mary Hunter is one of those members who continues to contribute. Her latest project is leading the charge to create book pillows for children with cancer.

The local Star of Destiny Chapter of Colonial Dames in Denton has tasked the Material Girls to make book pillows as part of their service project this year. They will be collecting these pillows at their State Conference in February, and the pillows will be distributed to the Sunshine Kids, a nonprofit organization for children with cancer, located in Houston.

To date, the Material Girls group has made 41 pillows, most of them made by Mary who is a member of the Star of Destiny, Marguerite Rose, and Dorothy Jose. Each of these creations will be stuffed with a pillow as well as a book. With over three more months to go and more being made each week, expectations are that there will be a much bigger number of pillows created by February.
