Janet Coddington was a school counselor by profession, but her interest in art has been rekindled in retirement. She now is enjoying her membership in the Paint & Palette Club. Her story and art are displayed in our window in the CATC building. There you will find quite an assortment of Janet’s delightful pieces.
After taking some classes in Zentangle, she became hooked. She began doing them in black and white, then happily branched out, now creating her “j”Tangles, as she calls them, using gelly pens. The encouragement she received from other members of the club has spurred her on to try new mediums and techniques and simply be her uniquely creative self.
Zentangle was created in 2004 by Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts. It is easy to learn and a relaxing art form, creating simple, repetitive shapes and patterns. Based on traditional art forms that encourage focus and creativity, it uses dots, lines, S-curves, and orbs. The supplies needed are minimal, so it is easy to carry along when you travel. As Janet says, “Have Zentangle, will travel!” Several members of Paint & Palette have come to enjoy this art form. They share their knowledge and offer gentle critique and encouragement to the “new artists on the block.”
Janet’s drawings and Zentangle have been displayed in recent art exhibits at the clubhouse. Members are already working on creations for our Winter Exhibit, which will take place Feb. 16-23, 2025, with an Artists Reception on Feb. 22. It’s always fun and informative to stop by, enjoy the exhibit, and meet the artists while enjoying a cocktail.
Membership in the Paint & Palette Club is free until the end of the year, so come join us on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Indian Paintbrush Room of the CATC building. Like Janet, you may discover that “art fills your soul unlike anything else.”
