Many citizens believe that they could do a better job in government than our current elected officials, if only they had a chance to serve. Running for office is an enormously complicated and confusing endeavor that often seems inaccessible to anyone not already in the inner circles of politics. One man is taking this challenge head on: Will Fisher, candidate for Texas Congressional District 26.
Will Fisher was the guest speaker at the RR Democratic Club’s August meeting. He outlined his personal and business background along with his political platform as he campaigns as the Democratic candidate in the 2018 midterm elections.
Also during its meeting the club was honored to have Dr. Jamie Wilson, Denton ISD Superintendent, speak to the membership regarding the Tax Ratification Election (TRE).
The Denton ISD Board of School Trustees voted unanimously to call for an election to keep local tax dollars for public education local and increase funds the district receives from the state. Dr. Wilson explained the “tax swap,” which would bring additional moneys into the district’s operating budget that pays for salaries, supplies and other daily expenditures.
The RR Democratic Club presents a variety of speakers such as community leaders Will Fisher and Dr. Jamie Wilson to better inform and educate us as voters on issues affecting our community, state and country. Come join us on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Clubhouse.
