Democratic Club expands its outreach

Last May the Democratic Club was relaunched becoming a sanctioned Robson Ranch club. Over the past year, it has had an ever-increasing membership focused on a forward-moving agenda. As the club expanded, so has its outreach into the community. About to enter into its second year, officers were elected to serve the 2018-2019 year: Richard Kushmaul and Patty Kelly, co-presidents; Margo Ways, vice-president and Kara Engstrom, secretary and treasurer.

During its March meeting, Paul Meltzer, candidate for city council, spoke to the club and shared his vision for the city of Denton. Denton is one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. and Mr. Meltzer outlined his plan for growth while simultaneously preserving and cultivating the uniqueness of the city with its thriving arts and university communities.

On another note, the club’s Environmental Committee, headed by Dan Zipes, reported on its active work with the HOA and general manager in hopes of establishing a recycling program at the Wildhorse Grill, Clubhouse, and Sports Center. For most of us, home recycling is common place. Considering the U.S. EPA’s estimates that 90 percent of all solid waste generated by businesses is recyclable, a recycling program in our public buildings is a natural extension of our home program, thus, making us a more sustainable and environmentally responsible community.

The Democratic Club is also reaching beyond our “white fences” following the city of Denton’s approval of the club’s application to “adopt a road”. We extend a resounding thank-you to the Softball Association for its recent trash pick-up on “Great American Cleanup” day. And soon you’ll be seeing members of the Democratic Club cleaning up litter on a two-mile stretch along Robson Ranch Road. The club has made a two-year commitment to clean this portion of road at least four times per year. Robson Ranch is a beautiful community, and we hope to keep our roadways beautiful as well.

Want to get involved and stay informed? Come join the Democratic Club on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Clubhouse and become better educated on issues affecting our community, state, and country. For more information, visit our website at www.rrdemocraticclub.com.
