The Robson Ranch Duplicate Bridge Club holds weekly American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) sanctioned games on Monday and Friday at 12:30 p.m., and on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the clubhouse. Members of the club range in skill from beginners to advanced players, and all bridge players are welcome. You do not need to be a member of the ACBL to play. No partner? No problem! Our director will work diligently to find a partner for you. If you would like to meet us socially, please join us at the Grill for Happy Hour around 4 p.m. on Fridays.
Sanctioned duplicate bridge was started at Robson in August of 2006, when director Mary Lou Collins founded the North Stars Duplicate Bridge Club. It was a very small group, and many players were unfamiliar with ACBL, and had not played sanctioned bridge. Director Jo Bryan, a recognized ACBL Teacher of the Year, began teaching lessons at Robson Ranch and founded the Lone Star Duplicate Bridge Club. Mary Lou and Jo continued to grow the membership, and bridge players became more skilled and comfortable playing. Members have played in tournaments throughout Texas and across the United States and Mexico, including bridge cruises to the Caribbean. Mary Lou and Jo retired in September of 2021, but we are fortunate to have Jo continue to teach bridge lessons and to have both Mary Lou and Jo play in our club games.
In 2020, the two bridge clubs were consolidated into the Robson Ranch Duplicate Bridge Club. Our membership is now over 60 players. Tawana Arnett directs the Monday and Friday games, and Norris Drum is our Wednesday night director. Club officers for 2021 are Shooter Summers, president; Lori Slocum, vice president; Sue Russell, treasurer; and Lynda Garrett, social chairman.
The two bridge clubs have had several members achieve the lofty goal of Life Master. Alan and Jan Robson were our first Life Master achievers, followed by Anne Sherman, Eleanor Cherryholmes, Jim Hammond, and, most recently, Alice Wright and Tawana Arnett. On Feb. 11 we honored our two newest Life Masters with a celebratory luncheon followed by a 17-table bridge game, including participants from the Robson Ranch Duplicate Bridge Club, the Shirley Walker Bridge Club, and the Denton Bridge Studio.
If you would like more information about our club, you can contact Director Tawana Arnett at [email protected].
