Taste of North Texas is the biggest buffet you’ve ever seen. This amazingly gluttonous fundraiser sponsored by the 91-year old Denton Kiwanis Club supports the ongoing efforts of its Children’s Clinic, a network of dedicated local health care providers providing low-cost or no-cost medical, dental and prescription assistance to disadvantaged children in the Denton area. And members of the Kiwanis Club Robson Ranch volunteered on March 30 to lend its sister club a hand with the event’s alcohol service.

Now in its 28th year, Taste of North Texas is not your typical food tasting expo; event planners find some of the best tasting and most unique samplings from around Denton in the categories of appetizers, entrees, desserts and beverages. For one price attendees sample a wide range of foods and beverages from 35 different Denton area restaurants, caterers and food service providers. With the admission, food and non-alcoholic beverages are “all you can eat” or until supplies run out, and that also includes two alcoholic drinks.

You can eat your way through the event sampling of a bit of this and a taste of that: Ben E. Keith Foods with its original tart yogurt with so many different toppings; Beth Marie’s Ice Cream, Denton’s sweetheart of ice cream shops, serving as many scoops of flavors as desired in your choice of a cone or cup; Candy Haven with delicious white or chocolate cupcakes; The Candy Store offering a variety of chocolates, candies and coffees; Fire in the Hole Pizza serving pizza slices from their portable wood-oven truck; Freebirds Burrito with a great salad bowl and delicious made-to-order toppings; Rudy’s BBQ serving sausages, ribs and brisket with your choice of sauce; Lucy’s Mom’s on Main (Aubrey) with fresh chocolate chip cookies and chicken salad; McAlisters Deli pouring its sweet tea, unsweet tea and half and half; Audacity Brewery serving beers—lots of beers. And that’s just a few of the many participating vendors.

So if you missed it this year, mark your calendar for The Taste of North Texas in the spring of 2018. You’ll be surprised by what you discover in new foods and beverages. There’s something for everyone, and you’ll definitely taste something incredible from some place you never knew about located right here in the city of Denton.
