The yoga community at Robson Ranch Denton enjoyed a free day of yoga on Labor Day, Sept. 1.

Eighty yogis attended this annual event, which Susan Engstrom has coordinated for the past 13 years. Susan said that there was an exceptional turnout this year! Four classes and four teachers presented the practices. Several of the residents participated in more than one class.

The classes that were taught for this free day of yoga are taught weekly at Robson Ranch and are held in the Fitness Room of the Cimmaron building. Those classes included the following:

Flow Yoga: This is a creative class that links the poses with your breath. This practice is fluid and builds strength, balance, and flexibility and provides cardio. Susan Engstrom began the free day with this style of yoga, and the energy in the room was impressive. Susan has taught at the Denton Robson Ranch for 13 years and has done the free day of yoga annually since she started teaching. Contact Susan at 214-632-9110 about her classes.

Yin is a passive series of poses that work the hips, pelvis, inner thighs, and lower spine. This practice stresses your joints and helps to restore flexibility while breaking up the fascia and deep connective tissue. Yin relaxes the mind as you release and let go of tension, both physical and mental. This practice was taught by Veronica Hollenshead. Veronica has been teaching her classes for five years. Ease into Yoga: This practice emphasizes strength, balance, and flexibility. It is a Hatha-style practice that is suitable for individuals who struggle with balance or are returning to yoga after injury or illness. Susan Cope taught this class and has been teaching in the community for three years. Contact her at 850-624-7191.

Chair Yoga: This class has the same benefits of traditional yoga. There is a focus on mindfulness and breathing, which can improve mental clarity and emotional well-being. The chair will aid with support and stability, all the while improving flexibility, range of motion, and joint mobility. This class was taught by Dana Ludwig. Dana has been teaching at the Ranch for over a year. Contact Dana at 561-827-6416.
