Friends of the Library (FOL) has a lot in store for the Robson community for the remainder of this year and into next year. There will be book discussions, Puzzle Palooza, new books on the FOL shelves, another Volunteer Luncheon, and decisions made about books to be discussed next year. We hope you will join in the fun by participating in the events we have planned.

There are two more book discussions this year: Sept. 14 and Nov. 9. In September we discuss 1984, by George Orwell, and Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley. You won’t want to miss this timely presentation led by Elaine Kushmaul and Klaus Dannenberg. For November, please read The Pioneers, by David McCullough, to prepare for the discussion led by Lewis Toland.

Also in November, between the 10th and 11th, you are invited to participate in or watch our Puzzle Palooza. Ed Whelan is the chair of the group that is working to plan this jigsaw puzzle team competition. There are some of us, myself included, who will greatly enjoy watching those more puzzle-inclined among us work their magic.

On your future visits to the Robson Library, please take time to notice the additional books on the FOL bookshelves. Elaine Kushmaul is busy reviewing input from Robson residents to help her determine which new books to purchase. She is also discussing the potential choices with members of the library Collection Committee. These books will be paid for with FOL funds, which come from dues and donations from our generous members.

The FOL Book Discussion Committee, headed by Cindy Voliva, will be meeting soon. They will be carrying out the important duty of determining the books to be included in our book discussions for 2024. Along with new entries into the discussion, they will also be considering books that have been considered but not included in years past. The committee members take their duties very seriously, as their decisions affect some of the books and ideas the FOL members and other participants are exposed to and discuss with each other.

Hopefully, you are on board for some or all of our upcoming events. Whether you decide to join us for one of our book discussions or the Puzzle Palooza or visit the library to check out a new book, the Friends of the Library will be on hand providing services we are happy to make available to all our friends and fellow residents here at Robson.
