From the Living Well Committee

Welcome March—the month of shamrocks, green beer, daylight saving time on the 13th, and spring begins on the 20th with blooms of new life on trees, bushes, and flowers. A welcoming time!

This month, the Living Well Committee has an informative presentation on Parkinson’s disease by Laura Austin, P.T., M.S. DPT, NCS, DOR, and director of rehabilitation for Select Rehabilitation Hospital of Denton. She also oversees therapy services and staff, program development, and the accreditation process for the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). See more of her profile on our Living Well website rrlwc.com. Don’t miss this enlightening presentation!

Something else you won’t want to miss is the Open House for clubs on Saturday, March 5. If you’re new to Robson Ranch or have been here a while and haven’t been able to get involved in clubs and activities, this Open House is for you! It’ll be held in the ballroom from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Please stop at our Living Well Committee tables and introduce yourself. We’d like to share with you all of our committee events, like monthly presentations, the “Olympics” in September, Turkey Trot in November, weekly blood pressure checks, weekly walks, Friday Market, and so much more. Also, we’d love to hear any suggestions you may have for a presentation that may be important to all residents.

We hope you enjoyed our Feb. 16 presentation by Jim Purpura, meteorologist. Jim’s focus was on “Weather Safety at Robson Ranch.” Jim is a “newbie” to Robson Ranch, coming from California after skirting around the country in his profession. He spent 32 years at the National Weather Service (NWS), including 12 years at Norman, Okla.; director of the Corpus Christi NWS for two years; and director in San Diego NWS for eight years. Although retired, he now works as an expert witness consultant. Jim’s presentation was fascinating and informative. Check out our website rrlwc.com to learn more. I want to thank DATCU, a credit union for anyone, who has sponsored all our presentations—always available to help with your needs.

Our Reflective Sharing Group meets on the first Thursday of each month. This month we’ll be at the clubhouse and will meet at 2 p.m. (instead of 1 p.m.). If you are in need of comfort and support after the passing of your partner or loved one, please join us. We are currently reading Grieving with Hope. Contact Claudia Caporale at [email protected] for more information or if you have any questions.

We’ve added more vendors to our Friday Market. It’s open from 8 to 11 a.m. every Friday, weather permitting. Check out the variety of offerings and the opportunity to purchase fresh products right here in the Robson Ranch parking lot.

March is the perfect month to start exercising again. Join Gil in his weekly three-mile walks and blood pressure check every Wednesday. Mark your calendars for the Robson Ranch annual Health Fair on April 16. This event is always fantastic and generates a huge turnout, providing excellent information. Keep checking our Living Well Committee website rrlwc.com and get ready for another great year!
