Ending its summer hiatus, the Garden Club will hold its first meeting of our 2022-23 club year on Monday, Sept. 19, at 10:30 a.m. at the clubhouse. Our speaker will be Tammie Gurley, a Master Gardener and active member and committee lead with the Denton County Master Gardener Association. She will speak about attracting pollinators, especially butterflies, and, importantly, what we can do to help butterflies survive during extended dry periods.
Our club year begins in September, with monthly meetings on the third Monday. We will be enrolling new and returning members at this meeting. Dues remain at a bargain $10 per family. Cash or checks are accepted (payable to RR Garden Club). Please arrive early, if possible, to get enrolled. Returning members, we need to refresh our Member database and appreciate your understanding in updating contact information during enrollment.
Newcomers to the Ranch are encouraged to join us and learn about gardening in North Texas. It varies greatly from other regions, with our hot, humid summers; drying winds; and mostly poor soil conditions. Even so, our gardens bring joy and burst with color and variety!
Save the date: Monday, Oct. 17, member field trip to Clark Gardens in Weatherford, Texas.
Our October meeting will be a field trip by carpool to Clark Gardens, which began in 1972 as the private garden of Max and his late wife Billie Clark. After spending years creating a stunning and tranquil landscape in this rugged place, the Clarks established a Foundation in 1999, donating 143 acres, opening the Gardens for public enjoyment. The Gardens demonstrate the value of native Texas, Texas-adaptable, and drought-tolerant plants.
Docents will guide us on a two-hour tour of the grounds. For those requiring some assistance, Clark Gardens has a limited number of docent-driven golf carts available for the tour to make the gardens more accessible to more people. We hope you can join us to enjoy this local treasure. The cost is $20 per person for the admission fee, payable in advance (checks payable to RR Garden Club). More details will be provided at our September meeting. We will be taking reservations and payment at that time.
