The Garden Club of Robson Ranch will begin its new year with the first meeting on Monday, Sept. 21, at 10:30 a.m. in the Lonestar Room at the Clubhouse. Keep in mind our membership represents all levels of gardening experience. You don’t have to be an expert! We learn from each other and our wonderful speakers and field trips.
This group is especially helpful to Robson Ranch residents new to this area. Soil, climate and plant hardiness are all something we need to consider when planning and maintaining our yards. The 2026-27 Garden Club Board members are: Betsy Duncan, President; Deb Harwell, Vice-President; Lisa Lebsack, Secretary and Communications; Janice Brown, Treasurer; Barbara Geiser, Membership; Ellen Sullivan, Publicity; Pam Vollmer, Featured Yards; and Joanne Horst, Home Garden Tour.
Our September speaker will be Barbara Smith, a Master Gardener with credentials we all envy! Her program for September is called ‘Superstars’ … we can’t wait to hear what she says are the stars of North Texas gardening!
Since this will be the first meeting of the new year all members, old and new, will owe $10 per household for the year. This nominal fee comes back to members in the form of defrayed expenses on field trips, luncheons, etc.
Please also note our Featured Yard! In the hottest weeks of summer Marilyn Sells’ yard, at 8812 Basanite Avenue, stood out as a colorful example of blooming plants which can survive, and even thrive in Texas heat. Her yard reflects her theory of “more is better” and “Color! Color! Color!” Her favorite plantings are her Profusion Zinnias, which are a great heat-tolerant alternative to Vincas. And more good news: Rabbits don’t seem to like them! Another good tip from Marilyn, when she installed the flower beds, she replaced the soil to a depth of 12 to 18 inches and with a good soil and garden mix.
