Erminja Maganja, Garden Club Publicity Chair
A beautiful spring day awaited us on May 16, as some 50 Garden Club members assembled to close out our club year with the popular RR Garden Tour, visiting five lovely RR yards. Using golf carts as our primary transportation, we made our way across the Ranch to enjoy the creations of our gracious garden hosts: Lori and Mike Slocum, Marci and Don Roberts, Denise Gauthier, Kimo and Christine Sutton, and Charlene and Eddie Williams. Huge applause to these marvelous hosts and neighbors—we truly appreciate your generosity in sharing your gardens with us!
There were sun gardens, shade gardens, and happy plants filling nooks and corners and, together, they were a feast for the eyes and with personalities all their own. Members were treated to and admired a variety of flowers, shrubs, and trees in colors galore and in every shade of green. The gardens featured plenty of annual color, as well as perennials. There were old-time favorites and some uncommon plants. We saw peony, hosta, hydrangea, salvia, a wide assortment of lilies and columbine, along with several varieties of abelia, spirea, holly, decorative espaliers, and one interesting and unusual chocolate mimosa tree. The RR Garden Tour is a real treat for our Garden Club members.
A brief club meeting was held preceding the tour to conduct business, including electing Lisa Lebsack as the new secretary. Lisa is new to RR, loves gardening, and is jumping right in to get involved! Also, Letha Straub was appointed as the incoming Yard of the Month (YOTM) chair. In this role, Letha will help identify and highlight RR yards for our “drive-by” enjoyment. Gardeners simply love seeing the creativity and beauty around the Ranch. The club wishes to recognize the efforts of and express our appreciation to outgoing secretary, Carole DiQuollo, who has served as a board member for several years and concurrently led the YOTM project.
See you in September! The Garden Club takes a three-month summer hiatus, starting up again in September. All RR residents are invited to join the Garden Club. We meet the third Monday of the month at the clubhouse, with occasional field trips, which generally require additional fees for entry or transportation. Annual membership is $10 per family unit. We look forward to welcoming you!
Please keep an eye on HOA emails to be reminded about details of our next meeting to be held on Sept. 19, at 10:30 a.m., in the RR clubhouse.
Enjoy the summer, stay cool, and see you in September!
