Dick Remski, RR Gun Club
On May 15, 44 members of the Robson Ranch Gun Club had a fun outing at Fossil Point Shooting Grounds north of Decatur. We gathered at Fossil Point at 11 a.m. and had a great lunch of fresh grilled burgers, fries, and coleslaw, along with fresh cookies for dessert, then we had a short business meeting. Over half of the attendees had never visited this premier shooting club before.
The grounds include three sporting clays courses, skeet and trap fields, and a large selection of firing ranges for pistol and rifle ranging from seven yards out to more than 200 yards for rifles. It is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday and hosts many competitive shoots, including high school clay shooting teams.
Fossil Point hosts had set up a demonstration sporting clays stand near the clubhouse so folks who were interested could try out the sport of shooting clay targets from a stand. Quite a number of our folks had never shot the sport before and enjoyed trying out a few thrown targets with provided shotguns and ammunition supplied by our club.
Following the clays demonstration, attendees had the opportunity to try the actual sporting clays courses, skeet and trap, and to visit the pistol and rifle ranges on the other side of the 800-plus-acre property.
The Robson Ranch Gun Club is open to all residents who are legally qualified to own and use firearms. The club is dedicated to education, history, and the safe and legal use of firearms.
