On Oct. 7 Voices United, a non-partisan club at Robson Ranch, hosted a fundraiser coffee for IGNITE, a national organization that empowers young women to become leaders in politics. The event raised $4,070 to be used to fund Fellow scholarships in North Texas. The scholarships will send students to conferences and workshops that will help them develop the skills to move forward in their political goals.

Our speakers, Isabella Fuentes and Geovanie Ordonez, are IGNITE Fellows. Isabella, currently an IGNITE Fellow at the University of North Texas, described her goals and challenges as an immigrant from Venezuela. She has used her skills that she learned through IGNITE conferences to assist in a variety of political campaigns. Geovanie was an IGNITE Fellow at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio but is now a Donor Relations Manager with the IGNITE national organization. With great joy, Geovanie described how her family, which she described as a bit “machismo,” has reoriented to be very supportive of her ambitions as a leader.

After the speeches were finished, Voices United members spent much of the rest of the morning learning about each woman’s goals and the benefits each had received from IGNITE. Their enthusiasm for service to their communities inspired us to do the same in our own community.

Voices United is a non-partisan group of Robson Ranch women who share progressive values, perform community outreach, provide civic awareness and social contact for members, and have a good time! We’re a 501(c)(3) group. Our annual dues are $20.
