The Kiwanis Club of Robson Ranch presented Walter Zeller Awards to four of its outstanding members at the February 6 meeting. The Walter Zeller Awards benefit the Eliminate Project, a worldwide campaign by Kiwanis International and UNICEF to eliminate Maternal/Neonatal Tetanus from countries around the world.
Jim Galbraith was honored as being one of the charter members and a major player in the vision to form the Kiwanis Club of Robson Ranch. Jim is a Past Governor of the Southwest District of Kiwanis, which includes Arizona, New Mexico, the very western part of Texas as well as the very eastern part of southern California. Jim has served the Robson Club for several years by providing orientation for new Kiwanis members. His knowledge of Kiwanis on a local, district and international level is highly valued by the club.
Jack and Martha Callaway were honored as being charter members also. When the club started in 2007, the Callaways were among the first to sign up. Jack started our Texas Ramp project, which builds ramps for handicapped individuals in our area. He is also the club liaison to the Boy Scouts, the organization that Jack has been involved in for many years. Martha has done so many things for Kiwanis. For years she coordinated the bell ringing efforts with the Salvation Army. Her most recent project was working on the committee for the Robson cookbook. Jack and Martha have sold their home at Robson and soon will be leaving us. They will be greatly missed.
Alice Uyeda was honored as an outstanding member in celebration of her 95th birthday. Alice is designated cashier at the Kiwanis garage sales, the silent auction, chili cook off and July 4 hot dog picnic. She also mentors a 4th grader at Evers Park Elementary. Alice is probably the busiest person at Robson and is known by everyone. She is such an asset to the Kiwanis Club.
Also at this meeting Barbara Roberts was inducted and welcomed as our newest Kiwanian.
