Library Volunteers: Pillars of Community Service

Just a few volunteers in the library

Lorraine Wilson

The heart of Robson Ranch beats within the walls of its beloved library where a dedicated team of 75 resident volunteers devotes countless hours to ensure its doors are open and welcoming seven days a week. These tireless individuals keep the library alive and thriving, fostering an environment that resonates with warmth and community spirit. Operating on a schedule that spans the entire week, the library’s volunteers commit their time generously, with shifts covering Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Their unwavering dedication has transformed the library into a bustling hub, ensuring it remains a valuable resource for residents.

At the core of this volunteer force are several exemplary individuals, like John Fersch, Diane van Naerssen, Joan Petre, and Grace Ann Gallagher who have graciously served over 10 years. They, like all of the volunteers, embody the spirit of community and set the bar high for dedication and contribution. In addition to staffing the desk and organizing the books, our volunteers are the welcoming faces that greet fellow residents, fostering an inviting atmosphere. Their interactions go beyond mere transactions, aiming to make each visitor feel at home amidst the sea of books and resources.

Acknowledging the invaluable contribution of these unsung heroes, a special reception was held on Dec. 1 where the volunteers came together to be honored for their contributions. This celebration featured refreshments and snacks, just a small token of appreciation for their ceaseless efforts.

Looking ahead to April, the Friends of the Library (FOL) are gearing up to host a volunteer appreciation luncheon, an event eagerly anticipated by the volunteers, library subcommittee, and FOL members. This occasion serves as a testament to the deep-rooted gratitude felt towards these selfless individuals.

For those residents yet to experience the charm of the library, an open invitation is extended to visit the CATC building and explore the wealth of resources and experiences it offers. Moreover, for those inspired to join this noble cause, volunteer applications are available at the library.

The Robson Ranch Library’s website, www.robsonlibrary.org, is a treasure trove of information, offering insights into both library and FOL offerings and events. Additionally, for those interested in checking the availability of specific materials like hardback books, audiobooks (CDs), movies (DVDs), or jigsaw puzzles, a convenient link to the library’s catalog—accessible at opac.libraryworld.com provides easy access without requiring a password. With a simple scroll on the left side of the page, visitors can peruse books by their favorite authors or search for titles of interest.

A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers whose dedication and commitment have transformed the library into a cherished haven. Their selfless service continues to enrich the lives of residents, making the Robson Ranch Library an indispensable part of the community’s fabric.
