Material Girls Has a New Group

Apparently, member Debbie Davis decided the Material Girls group didn’t have enough to do, so she created a new charity sewing group, which meets each Tuesday morning. Actually, it was a good idea, for she pulled together several existing charity project groups, some that were fairly long term.

Bundles for Babies is a group led by Carol Hansen. She organizes baby items, which are sent to Sheppard Air Force Base. The new or soon-to-be moms are required to take a prenatal class and then are eligible to have access to “all things baby” made by our Material Girls, including quilts, bibs, burp cloths, receiving blankets, and whatever the ladies can think up to make for babies.

Can you believe that there are many children who have no beds? Beds Across America is working to provide them. This was a program that started at a university, and Material Girls’ Corinne Milligan leads a group that provides quilts and pillowcases for the beds.

An excess of Christmas quilting fabric led to creating lap quilts for residents of local nursing homes. The Material Girls group also donates quilts by the hundreds to the Denton Quilt Guild who then donate them to many other organizations.

As you can see, we go through hundreds of yards of 100% cotton quilt fabric purchased at our own expense. If you would like to donate fabric, we would surely appreciate it, as long as it is new-quality quilting fabric. Debi Davis would be glad to accept it. You can reach her at msdebrad@gmail.com.
