Motorcycle Club: Keeping in Touch in the Summer Heat

Wowing the crowd at the 2023 parade

There is always so much going on at Robson. Folks are traveling, family is visiting, and clubs have many events planned. Keeping up is critical. GroupWorks has been the app of choice for many clubs at Robson. But, alas, it ceased operations on June 21.

Motorcyclists like to communicate. When we are riding, we attach the Bluetooth Senas or Cardos to our lids so we can keep up with the route, road conditions, and get the 411 on the best places to eat. There is also that need for a rest stop. When off the bike on a trip, we also try to keep track of our buddies and wrangle stranglers so we can get to the next destination. This requires a good application that is functional and easy to use.

Ron Bane has taken on the task of finding a suitable replacement. Ron has compiled a thorough and easy-to-use comparison of GroupWorks, Friendcasts, GroupMe, Wild Apricot, Zeffy, and GroupSpot. We need a tool that will allow members to communicate, post rides that include multiple locations, indicate their participation in these events, and has the ability to attach related documents. Club members and the board are currently using and comparing GroupMe and Friendcasts for their suitability. We thank Ron for his efforts and hope to have a system in place by next month.

The summer weather is upon us, causing the best laid plans of mice and men (and motorcycle clubs) to go awry. The June club ride to the Civil War Museum in Eagle Mountain/Saginaw was called off due to the heat. Robert and Nancy Whipple will regroup, and we will definitely visit the museum in the near future.

Well, what’s on the horizon? We have a great ride planned to the cool mountains of North New Mexico in Angel Fire on July 14-20. Following that, Dave Riddle will lead the next breakfast ride on Aug. 6.

As a reminder, summer is a great time to get a bargain on a coat you can donate to the Coats for Kids Ride. Any club member will gladly accept your kind donation.

Stay cool and enjoy the summer fun!

See you on the road!

Beware of cagers, and keep the rubber side down!
