One in seven patients entering a hospital may need blood, plasma, or platelet transfusions. This ranges from trauma victims to patients battling sickle cell disease or thalassemia, or to ensure a successful organ or bone marrow transplant, according to Carter BloodCare. Cancer patients use 25 percent of all blood donations, and blood transfusions are needed in one out of every 83 newborn deliveries in America today, a rate that increased by more than 50 percent between 2006 and 2015.
Pilot Knob Rotary is once again coordinating with Carter BloodCare to hold a blood drive here at Robson Ranch in the clubhouse parking lot on Saturday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. At our last blood drive on Jan. 11, 2023, we were grateful to have 22 people come to donate blood.
Carter BloodCare has been saving lives across large parts of Texas for 70 years. It is an independent, community blood center providing transfusion resources to more than 200 medical facilities in 50-plus counties of North, Central, and East Texas. The nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization is one of the largest blood programs in Texas, delivering more than 440,000 blood products annually to meet hospitals’ requirements for their patients. Services include collection, processing, specialized laboratory testing, storage, and distribution of blood and blood products.
Please join us on Saturday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for our next blood drive at Robson Ranch in the clubhouse parking lot.
