As the old saying goes, many hands make light work. In the case of the Happy Potters, many hands make great work! On two recent occasions, a few dozen members showed up for workshops to support both the club and the community.
Though you’d never know it from the weather, preparation for the annual Women’s Club Holiday Market is well under way. Potters are putting their individual touches on a variety of seasonal items, from ghosts and scarecrows to Christmas trees and ornaments. Sure to be popular at this year’s event are the adorable “hobbit houses” that are being created.
Another workshop day was devoted to “It’s time to work on Empty Bowls,” our yearly benefit “give back” to our community. Our goal this year is to provide around 150 bowls, surpassing last year’s donation of 121. Each bowl will be worth $30 for the Denton Food Bank. That $30 can then buy $90 worth of food. Potters worked on both hand-built and wheel-thrown bowls, breaking for a pizza lunch. We look forward to another wonderful photo op in which our worktable is filled with our creations!
In between the two workshops, Potters enjoyed a visit from renowned artist Sharon Hoppe who demonstrated her clay forms, templates, textured rolling pins, and other products. It was a session that was enjoyed by all and proved expensive for some, as Sharon’s tools are hard to resist!
The display window outside the Wine Cup Room was recently refreshed. We invite you to stop by and see the work of our talented artisans.
