Red & Blue Tournament

Candy Conway-Mikulik, Shannon Dunson, Sue Galinski, and Brenda Watson

If you’re not too fond of the alternate shot format, then just stay tuned in for the next nine holes—it’ll be an entirely different format. The Red vs. Blue WGA Tournament was a two-day event with four different formats in 36 holes. The captains (Sue Galinski and Candy Conway-Mikulik) and their co-captains (Brenda Watson and Shannon Dunson) started way back in May deciding on the interesting format, flight variations, and just how they would make their balanced team selections. Kinda like the Ryder Cup, the excitement built as 48 ladies competed against their friends with a different partner and competitor along the way. The “not knowing what was gonna happen next” was a big part of the excitement. As was intended, I’m sure, the teams were very closely balanced, and the final point total was very close to a tie. With the help of Stacy Brown and Jamie Siefert behind the scenes working on handicaps, parings, and other stuff we peons can’t even fathom, the tournament has become a very successful and much-loved annual event. As always, Jim Kirby and Dick Sterling were on hand to catch everyone’s smiles on day one.

With the Blue Team once again holding the winner’s cup in 2025, the 2026 event will no doubt be even more competitive. Thanks goes out from the WGA to Southridge Dental for their generous sponsorship.
