Republican Club: Active in So Many Things!

Some of the Republican Club’s dedicated float crew

Tim McCormick

If you attended the annual Robson Ranch Independence Day Parade, you saw that the Republican Club presented another great float, keeping the bar high for this wonderful tradition! Our float displayed the phrase from the U.S. Constitution, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men were created equal …” and “God Bless America.” Our club logo sat atop members’ golf carts, and we had great music for the spectators. If you missed it, make sure you attend next year to see what we come up with!

In June, the club was privileged to be visited by three eminent justices of the Second District Court of Appeals: Justice Dabney Bassel, Justice J. Wade Birdwell, and Chief Justice Bonnie Sudderth, who also holds the distinction of being the only sitting judge in Texas who has also served as Texas’s highest statewide official. Pursuant to Section 401.023(a)(3) of the Texas Government Code, Chief Justice Sudderth served as Governor of the State of Texas on July 5 and 6, 2019! The Justices gave an excellent presentation on navigating our sometimes confusing Texas judicial system.

The Republican Club is committed to helping you stay up on important current issues. Last year, Lynne and Bob Kelsey gave an informative presentation on ESG, or Environmental, Social, Governance policies, and how they are penetrating the boardrooms of major companies. They will be back next month with an important and timely presentation on CBDCs: Central Bank Digital Currencies. You will not want to miss this, so mark your calendar now for Wednesday, Aug. 2, at 6:30 p.m.

Check that time—we will be starting half an hour earlier than has been our custom. Members have suggested we start a little earlier, so we are going to try it. Make sure to get there when the doors open at 6 p.m., because programs will start at 6:30 p.m. sharp from August through October!

Because the upcoming year will be an important one politically, with a Primary in March and our Republican State Convention in late May, we want all conservative Robson Ranchers to have access to the information, education, and training that we offer. We are having a “bring a friend” raffle for our members at the August meeting. Each friend you bring who hasn’t been a member of the club will earn you a ticket to the raffle, and whoever brings the most friends will win a gift card to the Grill. After the program, we will hold drawings for other prizes. Never joined but have been curious about us? Find a friend who is a member and make this the month to check us out. If they win a prize, maybe they’ll share their winnings with you!

We want to make certain you are aware of the Power of the Purse event being co-hosted by the Republican Club and Texas Strong Republican Women (TSRW). TSRW raises funds to help support Republican candidates. This fun and important event will be held Saturday, Aug. 26, right here at the clubhouse.
