Things are heating up—not just outside, but in Republican Club activities! The club was well represented at the Independence Day parade with the Liberty Bell float, followed by a sizable cordon of golf carts proclaiming our American freedoms. Afterward, club members gathered to socialize and celebrate. This was closely followed by our first movie night. Over 230 interested folks came out to enjoy a beverage, eat popcorn and cupcakes, view the documentary 2000 Mules, which explores possible election irregularities, and learn about safeguards against such problems in place in Denton. This extremely successful evening will surely be followed by others, and next time, we’ll have enough chairs from the start!
August kicked off with another highly informative meeting. On Aug. 3, a representative from the Republican Party of Texas led a demonstration of a new app for phone banking that has the potential to simplify how members can participate in political campaigns from their homes—a new way to get involved without leaving your favorite chair! Then member Bob Kelsey, a veteran of the financial industry, gave a very informative talk on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), a progressive philosophy that is increasingly being used by corporations to influence their activities. ESG changes the corporation’s emphasis from maximizing profit for shareholders to addressing the desires of a broader list of stakeholders. Anyone who invests should be aware of the fundamental changes that are occurring in publicly traded securities, and our members had many questions in the discussion that followed.
The Republican Club meets the first Wednesday evening of the month at the clubhouse, with socializing at 6:30 p.m.,followed by the meeting and program at 7 p.m. All are welcome!
