The Denton County Republican Party (DCRP) held its annual Volunteer Dinner on Nov. 16, and this year Robson Ranch was represented and honored in force! Each year the County Republican Party honors the most effective and impactful volunteers of the last year. Most clubs have one person honored, but this year the Robson Ranch Republican Club was privileged to have three honorees.

Each club president is asked to nominate one outstanding volunteer and explain why they should be recognized. The county party then verifies each candidate prior to giving the award. The RR Republican Club president, Tim McCormick, nominated Laurie Wiginton for all the special events she has planned and coordinated as chairman of both the Hospitality and Special Events Committees. With her leadership, the Republican Club put on the most successful event for the DCRP other than its annual Lincoln Reagan dinner, which has been being refined for over 20 years. Laurie has also guided her team in providing refreshments at all our meetings (bumped up quite a bit from just ordering from the clubhouse), as well as taking care of the club’s outreach to members who are ill or have a recent death of a spouse.

Additionally, the Denton County Republican Party created a new award this year to honor the best club president of the year. They chose to honor the Robson Ranch Republican Club’s president with their first-ever Club President of the Year award. They noted the growth of the club (already the largest in the county), the increased involvement of the members with the county party, efforts by the club to build the party, and the many ways the RR Republican Club partners with the DCRP under McCormick’s leadership.

The greatest honor of the evening was the Lifetime Achievement Award given to our own County Commissioner, Dianne Edmondson, who is also a member of the RR Republican Club. Commissioner Edmondson was honored for the innumerable activities she has done and positions she has held throughout her years of service to the Denton County Republican Party. Among them are Chairman of the DCRP, Founder of Texas Strong Republican Women, National Director of the Republican National Coalition for Life, Creator of the DCRP President’s Council, and many more. Dianne is regarded as one of the most influential Republicans in Denton County and North Texas. Special recognition was given to Bob Edmondson who has been married to Dianne for 57 years throughout all of her involvement and who has been to almost all of the dinners and gatherings she has attended.

None of the recipients had any idea they were getting an award, and no other club received as many honors that evening. It speaks highly of the involvement of our local RR Republican Club.
