Road Runner Travel Club—Kentucky Derby and Bourbon Trail

Karen Lyons

What comes to mind when you think of fancy hats, mint juleps, and horses in May? The Kentucky Derby, of course! Join fellow Road Runners on a trip to the Kentucky Derby and then an optional extension to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

The trip begins at Churchill Downs, the world’s most legendary racetrack. It has conducted thoroughbred racing and presented America’s greatest race, the Kentucky Derby, continuously since 1875.

The trip begins on May 4 in Louisville, Ky. On Friday enjoy the Kentucky Oaks as the horses thunder out of the gate in the second floor covered grandstand bleachers. Witness on Saturday the Kentucky Derby at the starting line with a view of the homestretch.

Included in the trip is three-night accommodations at the Wyngate and admission to the races. All Simply Travel trips include the services of a professional tour director and gratuities. The trip begins and ends in Louisville. The cost of the trip is $2,819 per person double occupancy, land only.

Travelers from the Kentucky Derby can add on an extension, or travelers can begin the trip for the Kentucky Bourbon Trail on May 7.

Day one and two will be spent in Louisville. Highlights include Frazier Museum, The Spirit of Kentucky Bourbon Exhibition, and the Old Forester Distilling Co.

Day three starts in Louisville at Churchill Downs Racetrack and lunch at the Brown Hotel. After lunch, travel to Lexington. There are several optional excursions available.
