Roads priority in first month of office

I would like to offer my sincere thanks for those Robson Ranch residents who attended the recent reception celebrating my new role as Precinct 4 County Commissioner.
It is hard to believe only a month has passed since the swear-in and reception as weeks have passed in a whirlwind of motion ever since. We immediately began working on hiring staff and gathering input from my fellow commissioners and, specifically, Precinct 4 residents.
One road project that immediately topped the list is Crawford Road. I recently met with the county’s transportation consultant about getting the project to resurface the road started. In addition, I will have an update on the Cleveland Gibbs Road extension soon.
In January, I had the opportunity to tour the Jostens plant in Denton. We are launching a new initiative to highlight local Denton County businesses who manufacture products locally with videos about those businesses.
Jostens was first with The Big Game on our minds. We learned that the Denton plant makes all of the rings for a number of Big Game winners as well as high school and college athletes and graduates.
Did you know the first Big Game ring they made was for the Green Bay Packers?
Be sure to check out our Denton County Facebook and Twitter pages for the video. Stay tuned to find out where we will tour next.
Denton County also celebrated the re-opening of the Courthouse-on-the-Square museum after it closed for a year when a fire devastated the Downtown Mini Mall on the Denton Square. The wind direction sent plumes of smoke directly toward the Courthouse on the Square and the museum, requiring extensive clean up.
The museum re-opened with the “Denton County at Work” exhibit featuring the variety of skills required to work in county government, from physicians who work at Denton County Public Health to emergency management officials to road and bridge crews. With 1,700 employees, it takes every single individual to ensure we bring the best services that we can to you, our residents, and I am so honored to be among those working for Denton County.
“Denton County at Work” is a fascinating interactive display and I hope that each of you will take the opportunity to visit our museum in our historic Courthouse on the Square.
