Our Robson Ranch Gun Club took advantage of the recent unseasonably wonderful North Texas weather to spend some time with our friends at the local Quail Creek Range. We call it “Punching Paper,” for the paper targets we punch holes in!
Here in North Texas, we are blessed with an abundance and variety of local gun ranges, catering to all interests and skills levels. Most of the year, for our handgun and rifle target shooting meet-ups, we support our local range, Quail Creek Range, which is located just seven miles down the road. Set in a small valley covered in trees with a small creek that runs through, it is a superb outdoor range, with pistol, rifle (out to 100 yards), and archery. In those less comfortable dog days of summer or the cold dead of winter days, we shift to the nearby Eagle Gun Range, which is an indoor range with 25-yard lanes best suited for handguns.
In keeping with our club mission, our Paper Punchers outings are about fellowship. As a social club, we do not conduct the outings or make any arrangements with the ranges. We just say, “Hey, some of us are headed to Quail Creek Tuesday. See you there at 10!” All our members sign in at the range, like any patron, and we follow all range rules under the close supervision of the professional range safety officers who are employed by the range. Regardless of the types of practice, drills, or even competition that you enjoy, it is always more fun to be at the range with friends. At our recent outing, several of our women members were able to compare their “E-Z” model handguns, exchanging thoughts on ease of operation, comfort, etc. Mary Ellen (“Mel”) Steibel shared some paper drills that were new to many of our Punchers. A beautiful day for our members to meet up at the range, or for some to carpool, and then spend a couple hours Punching Paper! Held on the first and third Tuesday of the month, these are simply meet-ups at a local range. You don’t have to be a member of the Gun Club to join in. Drop us a line, we’ll tell you when folks are next heading out, and you can join us!
The mission of our Robson Ranch Gun Club is to provide an opportunity and forum for our members to meet, share their interest in firearms, participate in various forms of shooting sports, and provide a learning environment for all skill levels of firearm ownership and uses. Our monthly meeting is the second Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m. in the clubhouse. Safety is always our primary concern and is a shared responsibility of each member.
