Like our community, the Robson Ranch Republican Club has been growing. We extend an invitation to any resident here to become a vital part of our club. Our meetings are in the clubhouse on the first Wednesday night of each non-summer month.
We have a unique set of activities in which our members can participate. For instance, last month we jointly watched and cheered the FOX News Republican Presidential Candidate debate. We had a straw poll before and after the debate to ascertain the favorite candidates. As expected, there were many diverse viewpoints, but we had a lot of fun. We hope to have more debate watch parties in the future. The televised Presidential debates will continue through next spring.
Texas will be one of the first states to hold its Primary next year, March 1, 2016. We plan to educate and motivate our membership about this change, explaining how they can participate in the exciting Republican conventions, both locally and nationally. Our club is well-known throughout the area and even in the state for our candidate forums. We fully expect to have more outstanding forums in 2016. You won’t want to miss these events where you can meet the candidates personally before making your decisions.
Most new Robson Ranch residents will need to register to vote. In Texas you do NOT register by party affiliation. Club members, such as Dianne Edmondson, are deputy voter registrars and will be happy to get you registered. You may contact her at 940-262-3004 or [email protected]. The next election is on November 3 and is comprised of proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution. Information on those Amendments will be available at our October 7 meeting.
Several times each year our club hosts one or more of our elected officials as guest speaker. We’ve hosted our congressman, our county commissioner, our state senator and representative and others! Their remarks are typically followed by brief questions from the audience.
Comedian Woody Allen is credited with saying, “Another good thing about being poor is that when you are 70 your children will not have you declared legally insane in order to gain control of your estate.” Our program on Wednesday, November 4, will address the need to have a Declaration of Guardianship, which could help prevent that from occurring. Speakers will describe two situations that occurred to families that encountered estate problems, which might have been remedied by having this document. A local attorney, Leigh Hilton, will address the issue from a legal perspective.
Whether you are new to the Ranch or you’ve been a “Rancher” for some time, we would like to get to know you. We welcome both new members and new leaders to our club, so if you’d like to engage in spirited political discussion with other Republicans and learn more about important current issues, the Robson Ranch Republican Club may be right for you!
Please step forward, join our club and perhaps even be a leader as we move into 2016. We invite you to work with us to make a difference in the 2016 elections. Membership for the remaining months in 2015 is only $5 per person. Annual membership is $10.
If you have any questions about the club, please call David Laschinger at 940-262-2111.
