In May, 14 of your fellow friends and neighbors ventured to Louisville, Ky., to attend the 149th Kentucky Derby. What a race it was! Actually, it was two fun-filled days of races, laughter, and getting to know new people who became good friends by the end of the week. The Oaks is the day before the Derby and is a wonderful race for three-year-old fillies. This is the day everyone wears pink and celebrates breast and ovarian cancer survivors. They held a touching parade of some of these precious survivors, and the cheers from the crowd left chills! Of course, Derby Day was amazing and filled with so much excitement! The mint juleps were flowing, and the crowd was boisterous as the thoroughbreds ran their races, but when the actual Derby race began, not a person sat in their seats as they cheered on their favorite colts and geldings. We even had a few winners in our Robson Road Runners group!

Following the Derby, some of the crew went on to do a bourbon, bluegrass, and bridles tour. This was a great time to see some of the retired horses from previous Derby’s. We were able to feed and pet these beauties. The history of each horse and the milestones they each reached was amazing. The bourbon trail was pretty tasty and filled with history as well. We even went to a secret speakeasy to sample the wares, which were some of the best.

If you have never joined us for a trip, what are you waiting for? This once-in-a-lifetime trip was amazing, and we have so many more amazing trips coming up. Here is a sampling of a few of the trips you will find on our website, www.rrrrclub.com:
