The fall season for the Robson Ranch Softball League is underway. With the summer league coming to a close and the fall league beginning, a Single Elimination Tournament and free picnic was held on Labor Day weekend.

Enough players signed up to have four teams. Volunteering to manage and draft these teams were Liz Malone (Bombers), Paul Neal (Cougars), Pat Powers (Raiders) and Eddie Reeves (Bobcats). The teams were put together, and with no practices the games began.

The first game of the tournament was played on Saturday morning, and the second game in the afternoon. After the first game was completed the hotdogs and brats were grilled, and people were lined up to eat, drink and watch the game. A dunking booth was setup and proceeds collected were donated to “Support Our Troops” organization here at the Ranch. The second game began later in the afternoon.

On Sunday, the first game was held early in the afternoon and afterwards the winners of Saturday’s games played. The winner of this tournament was the Bombers with a homerun hit into centerfield in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Even through the Texas heat and humidity, the stands were full for both games on Saturday. The new paved parking lot was full, and cars were parked along the curve of the new road coming into the Ranch. The RRSA would like to thank the HOA for allowing us use of the entrance and to unblock Orangewood Trail for access to the field. This allowed more people to come, eat and watch some softball.

The RRSA would also like to thank Rich and Linda Kurita for their services during the tournament. Rich grilled all day on Saturday in the heat and kept grilling as long as anyone wanted to eat. Linda stepped in and helped organize where needed and also stayed to help clean up after the game.

Since we received so many positive comments on the tournament and everyone had a good time (players and spectators), the RRSA is planning to do it again after the fall season. The temperatures won’t be as high making it a good end for the 2015 season. If you would be interested in volunteering to help, let a board member know.

The fall league is now underway on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday beginning at 5:30 p.m. The entrance off of Ed Robson Road is opened for driving into the parking lot. If you are in your cart, use the temporary road off of Lindenwood Drive and make your way to the parking lot. It is getting easier to access the fields, so come and watch a game.

Again, thank you to all the volunteer umpires, scorekeepers, scoreboard operators and announcers.
