On Monday, Jan. 6, 260 ladies attended the first Women’s Club luncheon of 2020. President Gayle Coe presided and welcomed everyone to an exciting year! President Elect, Lucille Zimmerman, introduced new members and first-time attendees. The January birthdays were also recognized.

President Coe, stated 234 members have already paid their 2020 dues, and she reminded everyone to pay their annual dues as soon as possible. She also announced the January luncheon attendees donated $565 and various food items to the Denton Community Food Center. The 2020 designated monthly charities are Denton County Friends of the Family and the Denton Community Food Center. Please stop by the service table at the monthly luncheons and visit with a representative from each organization.

Joyce Frey, Lucille Zimmerman, and Dianne Battle presented checks to the representatives from Our Daily Bread and the Monsignor King Outreach Center. These two community-based charity organizations were the 2019 designated recipients of the proceeds from the Women’s Club Spring Home and Garden Show, the Fall Holiday Market, and the Holiday Home Tour. The Women’s Club is proud to announce the 2019 fundraising initiatives raised a total of $24,806.18 for the year. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to make the events a great success as well as everyone who donated throughout the year. You make a difference!

The luncheon program continued when the 2020 board of directors and committee chairs introduced themselves; all board members shared a description of their position and their vision for the year. Exciting events and programs are on the calendar for 2020!

After a lovely lunch, complete with Asian cuisine and Chinese fortune cookies, the attendees enjoyed an interesting and informative program with Jesse Davis, Denton City Council member, representing Robson Ranch. He informed members of “What’s Coming Down the Road” for Denton. Jesse also discussed how Denton is working to embrace continued growth and development and reviewed various strategic plans. He also highlighted the fun stuff happening in the city. It was a very informative presentation.

The Women’s Club March program will host another interesting presenter. Ms. Lauren Taylor, the reigning Ms. Wheelchair Texas, who will share her story while detailing her work with Texans with Disability and REACH of Denton. She will be accompanied by her faithful service dog, Buchanan. Her exciting work with disability advocacy, through her personal experiences, is inspiring. You will want to hear this charming and enthusiastic young lady.
