RR Conservative Club News

The Conservative Club is composed of like-minded citizens who believe the only way to save Texas and America is to elect strong constitutional conservatives who will fight for the type of union and limited government our ancestors fought and died for. Our primary mission is to inform and educate voters about the issues we are facing. We also make sure our elected Republican representatives are adhering to their constituents’ wishes.

One of those issues we face is “Stopping the Islamization of Texas”, presented by Texas state representatives Brent Money and Andy Hopper on July 17 at RR.

There are two overlapping themes with this issue. The first is a national security perspective focused on foreign influence and potential extremist networks.

The second theme is a cultural perspective focused on the perceived compatibility of Islamic legal traditions with American constitutional law of due process, equal protection.

During this time of celebrating our Nation’s founding, it is good to reflect on what it means to be a citizen with our constitutional republic. How do we honor our past citizens who gave us these rights and responsibilities? How do we maintain or keep our government acting in our best interests, to continue self-governance instead of being ruled by special interests?

“A Republic, if we can keep it”Benjamin Franklin

Citizenship is a mutual relationship: the government guarantees rights, while citizens uphold laws and civic duties. This balance ensures that freedoms are protected and that society functions effectively. Understanding and exercising these rights and responsibilities are crucial for maintaining justice, liberty, and the general welfare in a democratic society. One voluntary civic duty is watching that our government is truthful and transparent with us. Another one is voting. Of course, there are involuntary duties like paying taxes and obeying laws. But citizens must ensure that the mutual relationship endures, that we continue self-governance.

We need the power of discernment; a word used over 60 times in the Christian Bible. Not everyone has time to attend government meetings but we all can join organizations that keep us informed. And citizens can and should vote.

“Citizenship is what makes a Republic; monarchies can get along without it.”Mark Twain
