RR Golf Scholarship Association Presents Awards to Outstanding Young Golfers

Ana Corey

Three years ago, the Robson Ranch Golf Scholarship Association, a nonprofit organization, was created in honor of Dave Bowles. Dave was a golf instructor at the Ranch before suddenly passing away. He was passionate about teaching the game of golf. Dave initiated the Par 3 events to encourage golfers to improve their short game and to have fun. This led to the creation of this event in his honor. Players contribute $5 per round. The winners are determined by the lowest scoring four-man team playing nine holes. All three nine-hole courses are currently used, since the event has grown exponentially since its inception three years ago, with participating golfers in excess of 200 players. Board members are Lee Griswold, president; Cindy Sterling, vice president; Larry Klein, treasurer; Linda Scott, secretary; and Connie Griswold, play day chair.

Each of the deserving students exemplifies the criteria developed for this scholarship. Ms. Carley Button was awarded $2,500 and will be attending Southeastern Oklahoma State University where they are initiating a new golf program with Carley as the designated anchor. Ms. Madison Wert was awarded $3,000, having finished third in Regionals for the Argyle Lady Eagles. She is involved with a program called Caddies for Kids to help younger golfers learn the game. She plans to attend Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, studying to become a golf course superintendent. Ms. Isabella Lohr was awarded $3,500. She has been active in the First Tee program, a youth development organization that enables kids to build strength of character through the game of golf, for nine years. She had the honor to play in the Pure Insurance Championship at Pebble Beach with PGA Tour player Kirk Triplett as the Greater Dallas representative. Isabella established the #RunForDylan Foundation to honor her friend Dylan Dorrell who passed away from cardiac arrest. The Foundation’s long-term goal is to place AEDs at every city park, starting with the one where Dylan passed away, in order to save lives. Isabella plans to attend Texas A&M in pursuit of a law degree.

Congratulations to all the recipients and to the board members for all their efforts. We look forward to hearing from the winners in the future and to seeing them play here at the Ranch in future tournaments!
