“Bless the Broken Road,” Rascal Flatts’ song title, reminds me of my spiritual journey with its many winding roads and detours.
Only the most fortunate walk a straight path on their spiritual journey to relationship with our Heavenly Father. I was seeking something true and lasting, sensing there was much more to learn, not knowing what direction to take or where it would lead. Then God placed a Christian teacher in my path who taught me about salvation by God’s grace through faith in Jesus. He led me to the Bible and helped me to see that my true identity lies in who Jesus is, that I have value in my Father’s eyes, and that through faith in Him, we are equipped to be all that we were created to be.
There are as many testimonies of how we find the truth as there are believers who seek it. Countless sources prove that the bible is true, in every imaginable way. However, only by earnestly desiring the spiritual knowledge it holds do we ever begin to understand; for the things of God can only be discerned by our spirit.
We must weigh everything we hear; from news media to social media, from talk shows to friends and family, from church pulpit to public platforms, against the Word of God, because it is the ultimate source of truth for every critical issue in life.
God’s Word lit up my life, it made my path straight, and led me on a journey to knowing my Father’s love and living in the knowledge that Jesus is the only way to life’s blessings and eternal happiness. He’s put desires in my heart and showed me how He would make them all come true.
The Word of God changes the lives of all who read it with an open heart. It is God-breathed. It revives the soul, makes the simple wise, enlightens the mind, and makes the heart rejoice. It is alive and active, quick, and powerful. Its promises and blessings heal us and give us hope. It never misleads us. It never deceives us. It never condemns us. It only sets us free.
Who would not want to know the Word of God and receive its benefits and wisdom? Who would not want to open this treasure and read it, asking the Holy Spirit for guidance in all truth? People are still dying to preserve it, to teach it, to distribute it. Who are we that we would not desire it? It gives life to those who find it and health to one’s whole being.
My life’s journey is to grow closer to Jesus and to learn to release all that He has already placed inside of me. I am thankful for all who are on this journey with me, for those whom He touches through me, and for all who would agree with me; that God blessed the broken roads that led us straight to Him.
