The Serious Sippers Wine Tasting group met in the home of Kitty Waldrop on January 21. Kitty and co-host Pat Hamblin presented an educational lesson with the theme: New Year, New Wines from the New World. New World wines come from Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa and USA. Two whites, Vermentino, Pinot Gris, and two reds, Carignane and Carmenere, were selected for the group’s tasting pleasure.
A score card and aroma wheel were used by each member to consider their senses of sight (legs and color), smell (aroma) and taste (sweet, dry, tanic, smooth, strong, heavy and flavors). The history of each grape and pairing of foods was also discussed.
It does not matter what wine you drink as long as you like it. The best wines are the ones we drink with friends.
