Hats and horses were the order of the day as the Robson Ranch Singles Club welcomed the coming of spring and its second annual Kentucky Derby party. The event was held at the home of Dee Simmonds on May 5. Over 60 of the club’s members attended.
Refreshments for the event were catered by Dickeys, featuring BBQ beef and chicken, plus beans, slaw, other sides and dessert. It was enjoyed by all.
Derby Day is famous for ladies and hats and this tradition was carried out by many of the ladies of the club. The best hat contest had three winners: Peggy Bayer, Fran Norris and Gayle Brothers.
Entertainment consisted of some lively contests in a modified pari-mutuel format to see who did their homework in predicting winners and losers. There was also a count the marbles game.
The event was organized by Rita Kolsa, Patti Kelly, Joi Wilson, Nancy Estes, Barbara Kulas, Ann Blum and Fran Norris. Barbara and Ann deserve special mention for designing and running the pari-mutuel game so well.
The Singles Club participates in many varied social, cultural and community service activities throughout the year. We meet every Tuesday to mix and mingle at the Grill from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. If you are interested in learning more about the club stop by to see us there.
