Support Our Troops held its most successful golf tournament to date. The net income from the tournament was over $22,000, which will all go to supporting our troops. We sold out all the golfers’ openings, and even had folks on the waiting list. Five active military participated this year, and we had five all-women teams as well. We have to send out a big thank you to our Title sponsor Fidelity, Legacy sponsor the Robson Ranch Sales office, the Featherheads, and all our volunteers. We are so lucky to have so many dedicated people who always step up to help us support our troops and their families. Mark your calendars now for next year’s SOT Golf Tournament, which will be on Friday, April 28, 2023. We hope to have more troops coming up to play then from Fort Hood and other bases.
In April, we shipped out 42 boxes to troops deployed to Japan, the U.K., the waters off Greece, the Netherlands, South Korea, Egypt, and in an undisclosed location. Our Sassy Stampers also supplied us with beautiful handmade cards that are mailed to our troops with handwritten messages from SOT members.
The Young Men’s Service League had their final meeting of this school year on May 15. There was a special presentation during the meeting. We always enjoy having these incredible high school students and their moms come to serve and learn about our military.
SOT hosted the Memorial Day program at the Veterans Park, which included announcing the names of veterans whose bricks were recently added to the park.
The Independence Day Parade will take place on Monday, July 4th, at 9 a.m. It would be great to have more volunteers to help. The coordinator, Mike Sabo, needs about 40 folks to help with the setup. Most helpers will be finished with their jobs before the parade starts.
Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Denton has begun a program where patients who are veterans receive visits from volunteer veterans. It’s called the Veteran’s Visitation Program. It’s a once-a-week commitment for two to three hours of your time. If you are interested in this program, please contact Pam Milam at 940-898-7053 or [email protected].
If you have a relative who is in the active reserves or is on active duty in a U.S. military branch, please contact Roger Thomas at 940-465-0641 to have them added to our support list.
SOT is an entirely volunteer, non-political 501(C)(3) organization that was established to help and support our troops and their families. If you are interested in joining, just come to one of our meetings, held on the second Monday of the month at 1 p.m., in the Lone Star Room of the clubhouse. You do not have to be a veteran to join us. Hope to see you then.
