SOT Golf Tournament Was an Outstanding Success!

Robson Ranch Featherheads

Many thanks to all those who participated in our first fundraiser of the year—our yearly Support Our Troops (SOT) golf tournament. We were sold out, with 144 golfers participating. We had four active military members among the golfers and six all-women teams. There were many chances for all the golfers to have an opportunity to win prizes, and there were lots of goodie bags for everyone. Thank you, Ranchers, for your active participation in raising funds, which go 100% to support our troops, their families, and our important military charities. The silent auction items were also successful, and we thank those donors who generously gave to help support our troops. As always, Robson Ranch Sales covered the yummy breakfast and all the costs of our military participants. Once again, the amazing Featherheads made a significant donation to SOT—thank you!

At our May meeting, we were really pleased to have Tucker Olander of the Air Force, son of Tucker and Margaret Olander, attend. He is stationed in the United Kingdom and has returned to duty by now.

We now have 79 troops whom we are supporting presently. Eight of these are currently deployed. We have shipped 26 boxes to them this past month, and year to date have sent 85 boxes to those deployed. This past month, Grapevine United Methodist Church worked with us and filled 47 boxes of goodies. We also send cards every month, which are designed by our Sassy Stampers. Our members write personal messages to our troops thanking them for their service.

The Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) had their last meeting of this year on May 21. This national organization consists of high school boys and their moms, and our group comes from Argyle. We have 27 seniors graduating this year. When asked about their most meaningful experience of their senior year, many said it was coming to Robson Ranch and participating in YMSL. So, with these terrific boys graduating, there will be a whole new group next year. The first meeting of the new year will be on Aug. 20.

Coming up is the Robson Ranch 4th of July parade, which has always been a big event for SOT. Of course, we always need lots of volunteers. So, if you want to volunteer, please contact Mike Sabo, our parade coordinator, at [email protected]. There are lots of different volunteer positions, and it is great fun.

SOT meets on the second Monday of the month at 1 p.m. in the clubhouse. You do not have to be former military to be part of the club. Our meetings very often have speakers who will present many different topics referring to our military. We would love to have you come and be part of this great organization.
