Summer Tennis Club Tournaments and Socials Draw Crowds

Ralph Berry

It has been a busy summer of tennis for the Robson Ranch Tennis Club members. In addition to daily activities like pick-up play, drop-in times, ladies’ league play and various drill sessions, two exciting tournaments have been held. On May 30, Robson Ranch Tennis Club held a men’s doubles tournament. After multiple tie breaker sets across the rounds, partners Chris Hoover and Matt Olmsted emerged as champions over second place Tom McGinnis and Hunter Hawkins. Then on June 27, the coed Breakfast at Wimbledon social tournament drew a crowded field using every court. After multiple rounds of multi-partner timed no-add tennis Lana Doggett and Jeff Jackson walked away with the first-place trophies in hand for most individual wins. Second place finishers were Christine Coro and Terry Zimmerman. Of course, this being the Robson version of Wimbledon, everyone enjoyed strawberry shortcake after the tennis.

After these two successful events plus the Spring Fling held earlier in the year, Club players are looking forward to more competition and socializing. A women’s doubles tournament will be held on September 19, and the final coed tournament and social of the year, Octoberfest, will be held on October 17. The Tennis Club is the hub of tennis activity at Robson Ranch, and is always ready to welcome new members.
