Support Our Troops

As Texas goes into the spring season, SOT is busy with plans for our annual golf tournament. This annual Charity Golf Tournament will be on Friday, April 28. This is our major fundraiser, along with our Silent Auction in November. All the monies that we raise in this tournament go to the troops we support, along with their families, and several important troop-related charities. If you haven’t gotten your entry forms to play in the tournament yet, you can get them at the Pro Shop and on the SOT website supportourtroopstexas.com. You will receive breakfast, courtesy of the Robson Ranch sales office. There will also be a victory luncheon after the tournament. There will also be a small Silent Auction and, as usual, there will be a raffle for a group of four to play golf at the Denton Country Club.

Our Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) had their meeting on March 19 here at the Ranch. The YMSL is a national organization that consists of high school boys and their moms who work with organizations doing volunteer activities. Our young men come from Argyle, and this year there will be 28 seniors who will graduate in May. When they come to the Ranch, they write letters to the troops or work on SOT activities and get to hear a veteran talk about his military experience.

Currently, we are supporting 81 troops. Ten of them are deployed right now. There are troops in Germany, Poland, South Korea, Egypt, and in Pacific waters. The deployed troops receive goodies that are mailed to them, as well as a handmade card each month. Non-deployed troops receive a card every quarter. Our Sassy Stampers make these beautiful cards, and members of SOT write a personal note to each of these troops. We also send birthday and Christmas cards to them.

The next flag display holiday will be Armed Forces Day on May 18. This will be followed by Memorial Day, Flag Day, and Independence Day. We could always use volunteers to help with putting the flags down Ed Robson Boulevard, as well as taking them down. For those of you who want to display a flag in your yard, we offer kits so that you can do this. A member of SOT will install the flag holder in your yard. If you already have a flagpole and need a new flag, they can be ordered for $30, and they will be delivered to you. The person to contact in regard to this is Quinn Sowell at 940-262-1106.

Bricks for the Veterans Park Brick Drive to honor veterans are also for sale. To order these, contact Darin Burk at 309-530-1124. He can also advise you as to the wording on the bricks. Forms are available in the drawer under the Tribute Book in the RR clubhouse and on our website.

We hope many of you got to attend the SOT Spring Social at the Grill. It was our first casual social, and it was great fun. We look forward to a wonderful year and one that will celebrate those who serve our country with such commitment to our liberty.
