Support Our Troops (SOT) was so happy to be a big part of the July 4 Independence Day parade at the Ranch. We even had the Argyle Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) group of young men and their moms joining us to give out candy to the folks lined up to watch the event. The YMSL young men and their moms will be meeting again on Aug. 15 in our clubhouse, to write letters to the troops we support, as well as to hear one of our veterans talk about their service experiences.
This past month we sent shipments of boxes to countries such as Germany, Poland, and Egypt, and to one person who is in combat waters. We will continue to send monthly shipments of requested items where possible to the 10 deployed military on our support list. We also sent out many cards made by the Sassy Stampers that include personalized notes from our members. The troops really enjoy receiving them.
A very big thank you goes to the Classic Rock Club that recently had a night of dancing and revelry with a Rolling Stones tribute band. They dedicated a percentage of their profit to SOT, and ended up presenting President Darin Burk with a check for $1,460. All of this money will be used to support our men and women in the military in many ways, including supporting organizations here at home.
The Veteran’s Park Brick Drive is underway again, and those of you who are new to the Ranch can check out our website at supportourtroopstexas.com to get forms to complete your order for bricks. You can also contact Darin Burk for further information as to wording on the bricks and other brick options.
We are also planning on our 2021 Silent Auction fundraiser that is always held on Veterans Day on Nov. 11. It will be a real, live auction this year, as opposed to the virtual auction of last year and will be concurrent with the Robson choir’s patriotic music concerts. As always, we will have many new items that include art, gift baskets, gift cards, woodworking items, jewelry, and Sassy Stampers cards. We know everyone looks forward to this auction. It is one of the main fundraising events for Support Our Troops. So, be sure to watch for more information about the auction.
If you are not a member of Support Our Troops, you do not have to be a veteran to join. It is an organization that is open to everyone here at the Ranch. If you have a relative who is currently in the military on active duty or in the reserves, either in the U.S. or deployed, we would love to be able to support them. Please contact Darin Burk for information on how to get them on our support list. Our SOT meetings take place in the clubhouse on the second Monday at 1 p.m. each month. Please consider joining this really worthwhile organization.
