The Support Our Troops (SOT) Auction held on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, was a record-setting one. This year, the silent auction brought in over $40,000 to support the military troops and their families whom SOT supports. All of the money that we collected goes to those troops who are deployed or serving at home. The generosity of the people here at Robson Ranch, as well as the many businesses and local groups that step up every year, is just overwhelming. We are able to provide for the material, physical, and emotional needs for our military personnel. So, thank you all so much! One of our special recipients of our donation is a Texas-based organization called Patriot PAWS. They provide needy military with service dogs that they have trained, and the dog selects the military person. It is a very special and important organization. They have also named some of the pups for our SOT group.
We have several deployed troops who receive boxes of goodies on a regular basis. They also receive beautiful cards made by our own Sassy Stampers. These cards have personal messages written by members of SOT. The troops really appreciate these cards also.
The Veterans Day Ceremony at Veterans Park was led by SOT President Scott Cooksey and included a flyover and three parachuters who landed on hole 1 west. It was an exciting start to a wonderful Veterans Day celebration, which also included two concerts by the Robson Ranch Choir. Quilts of Valor also honored one of our veterans, Terry Colleen Rowan, with a quilt.
If a Robson resident has someone close to them, a relative or a friend, who is currently serving as an active duty or active reserve service member whom you would like SOT to support, contact SOT at our website supportourtroopstexas.com. There are also forms to fill out at the clubhouse.
SOT meets monthly on the second Monday of the month at 1 p.m. in the clubhouse. You do not have to have been in the military to join SOT. It’s an organization that looks forward to meeting you and having you be a part of a truly wonderful organization.
